Old film projector reborn as digital

Some of you probably remember these old film projectors that were used to display photographic film images on the wall. These were pretty exciting these days but since digital world took over they lost their shine. Matt didn’t thing so. He thought that it can be still used but this time to display digital images. For this purpose he placed a monochrome Nokia 1200 96×56 LCD in films place and passed 10W LED light through it and existing optics.

When mechanics is in place its time to talk about electronics. It is based on Atmega88 which does several tasks – drives LED, fan accepts IR commands from remote control and puts images on LCD screen from flash. It seems that project doesn’t use any external memory storage images then is stored in AVR internal flash. To make images more compact he used RLE compression of bitmaps.
