Measuring paintball projectile speed

If you are fan of paintball probably you would love to have upgrades to your gun. This is a low budget projectile speed measuring project. Projectiles are big enough for easy capturing with simple means.

Simple Infrared detector does this job well. You need to install two sets of IR diode and receiver at known distance like 4” in this case. Then it is up to PIC microcontroller timer to measure time between triggers that can be evaluated in to speed. Additionally device can measure rate of fire and shots made. With simple design improvements this could be a nice paintball gun upgrade kit.
