Measuring football inertia

Can you imagine what forces affect the ball when it is thrown? Check out this project where football where stuffed with some electronics including xmega board, 9 axis sensor board (XYZ accelerometer, XYZ gyroscope and XYZ compass) and blue-tooth module. Ball also has 32 LEDs that are visible when thrown. It is more for visual perception of speed the ball is spinning. The more intense spin – more red ball becomes.

More interesting is to see what data ball transmits via blue-tooth. Once it is captured it is convenient to analyze it and make some conclusions. Collecting this type of data can be useful training tool where coach could make corrections to improve game play.
