Is Time for Your Very First Persistence of Vision (POV) in Arduino Version

Do you know most of the cartoons are create based on this Persistence of Vision method? This Persistence of vision is the common phenomenon of the eye, which in nanoseconds of exposure to an image that result in milliseconds of reaction from your retina to the optic nerves.

The persistence of vision is always being compared with the related phenomena of beta movement and phi movement. In the point of view for POV, your eye/brain system functions as a motion detectors rather than camera. That’s why this POV has widely being used in the Film, video, cartoon animation and optical toys production.

You main goal for today is to mount the POV in a bike wheel and it will display a fascinating views while you ride on it.

First thing first, you need to prepare materials for the rig and POV circuit:

Components for the rig

  • Two old cell phone batteries, which act as a counterweight
  • A piece of metal (It is used for constitutes the turning blade)
  • A fan motor
  • A piece of plastic (It is for the base)
  • A plastic poster edge (For cover the sharp edges of the blade)
  • A heavy metal block, which stabilizes the contraption
  • A cable with a switch
  • Some cable ties

Components for the POV circuit

  • Small Breadboard
  • Six red high power LEDs
  • Six 1K Ohms resistors
  • A 9V battery with battery folder

For the making process, You have to refers to the following figures, which it only require you to assemble all the materials into a full complete set of POV.

Note: For your information, the LEDs are directly connected to the pins 2 to 7 of the Arduino, hence their current is limited by the resistors. This project is fully powered by a 9V battery.
