How to Develop a Useful Arduino and Laptop Touchpad within Three Hours

Did you know that the combination of an Arduino with Laptop touchpad could turn into a finest device? Even though, it’s not the first time the people build this project, but it’s still worth a try, due to its uniqueness and functionality!

Before you’re starting up the project, there’s something you have to do first. Go and find an average touchpad. It’s better to salvage your old laptop and use the touchpad inside of it. However, you must make sure the touchpad works fine with PS/2 standard. In other words, it can be used to plug into a PS/2 connector and with proper drivers, and functions as a mouse without further modification.

In this case, the MAX7219 LED Controller would be the perfect device for this project, as it allows you to use LedControl library to program the code!

When you refer to the above figure, you’ll see the whole Arduino with Laptop touchpad, where the 8×8 LEDmatrix is hooked up to Arduino. By the way, the Touchpad is used the 5 and 6 pins on Arduino, while the MAX7219 utilizes the pins 10, 11 and 12!
